Former President Escapes Assassination

Former President Donald Trump explained why he asked for his shoes as Secret Service agents whisked him offstage during an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.

"Let me get my shoes,” Donald Trump

Footage shows Trump moments after Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire with an AR-15 rifle from a rooftop 400 feet away. One person, 43-year-old Corey Comperatore, was killed, and others were injured, including Trump, who says a bullet grazed his ear.

Trump elaborated on his shoe request to the New York Post:

"The agents hit me so hard that my shoes fell off. And my shoes are tight.” Donald Trump to the New York Post

He also praised the agents for "a fantastic job".

Trump supporter and father of two Comperatore was named as the victim killed. Two other local residents, David Dutch and James Copenhaver, remain in critical condition. The 20-year-old shooter, Crooks, was killed by authorities.
