President Biden to Speak at LBJ Library, Dropping Out of 2024 Race

Austin, Texas — President Joe Biden will travel to Austin on Monday, to deliver a keynote address at the LBJ Presidential Library, marking the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. The event, rescheduled from July 15, can be live-streamed via YouTube at 4 p.m.

A Historic Visit:

Why Biden? Why LBJ?

The visit holds significance as Biden's first trip to Texas' capital since his election. Mark Updegrove, of the LBJ Foundation, said:

"It is fitting that he returns to the Library to mark this milestone as our 46th President whose administration is committed to pursuing a ‘comprehensive approach to advancing racial equity for all.’"

The address also comes on the heels of Biden's shocking announcement that he will not seek reelection in 2024. This echoes LBJ's decision in 1968, as he faced pressure from protests against the Vietnam War. U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett acknowledged the parallel, calling Biden's decision a "courageous action [that] caps decades of selfless service."
