Bryan Cranston Recites Excerpt from LBJ's Civil Rights Speech

American actor Bryan Cranston, known for his roles in Breaking Bad, Isle of Dogs, and Your Honor, appeared at the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library on Monday to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Cranston, who portrayed LBJ in the 2016 TV film All the Way, read an excerpt from the former president's historic speech on civil rights.

We believe that all men are created equal. Yet many are denied equal treatment...We believe that all men are entitled to the blessings of liberty. Yet millions are being deprived of those blessings. Not because of their own failures, but because of the color of their skin.

― Lyndon B. Johnson, July 2, 1964

Cranston's recital emphasized LBJ's powerful recognition of historical inequality and the need for change. The event, which also featured speeches by President Joe Biden and Mark K. Updegrove, celebrated the landmark legislation that ended institutionalized segregation.
