Texas welcomes Biden with praise.

Kirk Watson and Lloyd Doggett spoke on Biden's Texas appearance—a rare politician to do so.

President Biden visited Austin on Monday, delivering remarks at the LBJ Presidential Library to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. Texas politicians had varying responses to his visit:

  • Rep. Lloyd Doggett [D-Austin](https://twitter.com/ LloydDoggett/ status/1648479100622567424): Called Biden a "true statesman and patriot" on Twitter, despite previously urging him not to run again.
  • Mayor Kirk Watson: Hailed Biden's leadership, stating "[...] the American economy is the strongest in the world post-pandemic because of Joe Biden's leadership." He also praised Biden's decision to "pass the torch of leadership" and expressed support for Kamala Harris.
  • Gov. Greg Abbott: Criticized Biden's absence from the Southern border, tweeting: "Joe Biden & his Border Czar Kamala Harris can come all the way to Texas but not to the border. Americans are waiting for them to take this national security crisis seriously."
  • Rep. Greg Casar D-Austin: Released a statement praising Biden's pledge to reform the Supreme Court, saying it would "ensure the Court is balanced and not corrupted by billionaires and extremists."
  • Rep. Veronica Escobar D-El Paso: Honored to join Biden, she called the Civil Rights Act a "culmination of an arduous fight for equality."

Other Texas reps. in attendance included Al Green, Sylvia Garcia, Lizzie Fletcher, and TX Senate/House Minority Leaders Carol Alvaro and Trey Martinez Fischer.
