US refugee policy fuels cartels
The asylum system is in ruins. Humane solutions exist, but they will not happen overnight.

The situation at the US-Mexico border is dire.
"Your children are hungry. The shelter where your family is staying in Mexico is vastly under-resourced...You tried to explain this to an armed man in uniform at a U.S.-Mexico border crossing, but the officer told you to turn around."
Since Trump's "Remain in Mexico" policy, asylum seekers have been returned to dangerous conditions, with Biden's administration continuing and expanding these policies.
The Biden administration's suspension of asylum, accessible only via a smartphone app, is inhumane and pushes people into the hands of traffickers.
"The app is only accessible to those who speak English, Spanish, or Haitian Creole, leaving those who are illiterate or speak indigenous languages without a means to seek asylum."
The result? Families stranded in Mexico, in need of medical and psychological care, and a rising death toll.
"The Biden administration has poured more money into federal immigration prisons than US Citizenship and Immigration Services...It’s time for our leaders to stop playing politics with people’s lives."
