Austin Pride 2024: What You Need to Know
History of Pride:
Tradition holds June near Stonewall riots anniversary for Pride. LGBTQ rights catalyzed by 1969 unprovoked NYPD brutality at Stonewall Inn.
First US Pride Day: June 28, 1970, in NYC, LA, Chicago. Houston Pride began in 1979; Dallas in 1983. Austin's history dates to April 1970, officially recognized in 1990 with Gay and Lesbian Pride Fiesta.
Austin Pride 2024:
Theme: "Queer Cabaret: Unleashed Glamour + Glitz"
Date: Saturday, August 10th
Location: Fiesta Gardens, 2101 Jesse E. Segovia St.
Time: 11 a.
to 6 p.m. (festival), 8 p.m. (parade)
Parade Route: Capitol to Congress Ave, ending at Congress Bridge/Cesar Chavez St.
Performers:
Headliner: Saucy Santana with Queer Cabaret.
Other performers: Mariah Balenciaga, Isabella Lovestory, Arya, Salina EsTitties, Kerri Colby, Adore Delano.
Tickets:
- Festival Tickets: $20 adults, $10 ages 7-17, free for kids 6 and under. Online or at the gate.
- Pride: Free and open to all.
Why August?
August Pride includes more college students, less competition for performances/vendors, and more HIV testing opportunities. Moved from Sept in 2011; no official events in '20-'21 due to COVID.
