Former President Trump urged Christians to show up en masse at the polls in November, promising they “won’t have to vote again” if he’s elected.

At the Turning Point Action-hosted Believers’ Summit, Trump said:

“Vote early, vote absentee, vote on Election Day. I don’t care how, but you have to get out and vote... Christians, get out and vote just this time. You won’t have to do it anymore... In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote.”

His comments were met with criticism from Democrats, including VP Kamala Harris, who called the remarks a “promise to end democracy.” Rep. Adam Schiff shared a video of Trump’s comments, calling the midterms a vote against “authoritarianism.”

Trump’s campaign pushed back, claiming he was talking about “uniting the country.” Sen. Tom Cotton defended the statement as a “joke,” and Gov. Chris Sununu called it a “hyperbolic point.” Trump also attacked Democrats, saying they “don’t want to approve voter ID,” and encouraged Christians to prevent election “cheating.”
