Austin Names New Police Chief; City Council Approval Pending

Austin, TX – Lisa Davis, assistant chief of the Cincinnati Police Department, has been named the next permanent chief of the Austin Police Department (APD), pending City Council approval. City Manager T.C. Broadnax made the announcement on Friday, praising Davis' "stellar career" and expressing confidence in her ability to earn the trust of both APD officers and the community.

"The Chief of Police is a critical position for any city and, as I’ve said since joining the City of Austin in early May, identifying a permanent police chief was a top priority for me. I appreciate the invaluable feedback I’ve received, which has helped inform my decision. I am confident that [Davis] will earn the trust and confidence of our Austin Police officers and our community." – City Manager T.C. Broadnax

Davis, one of two finalists for the role, including Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman, now requires approval from the Austin City Council. Mayor Kirk Watson and council members will consider her appointment at a special meeting called for 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
