One sheriff's deputy was killed, two others injured in an ambush Friday night outside Eustis, Florida.

# Florida Ambush Leaves One Deputy Dead and Two Injured

Lake County, Florida - [Lake County Sheriff Peyton Grinnell](https://www.lakecountysheriff.org/our-office/command-staff/peyton-grinell/) held a press conference early Saturday morning to provide details on a deadly ambush that left one deputy dead and two others injured.

At approximately 8 p.m. on Friday, deputies responded to a disturbance call near Eustis. Upon arrival, they were directed to a nearby home where they observed signs of forced entry.

"They walked into an ambush and were met with a hail of gunfire," Grinnell said.

One deputy was shot and trapped inside the home. A rescue team, including tactical equipment, formed and re-entered the home, facing more gunfire.

> "It was a very violent scene," Grinnell said.

Two deputies were transported to the hospital with injuries. One deputy, a veteran law enforcement officer and longtime agency employee, succumbed to his injuries. The other deputies are in stable condition and recovering.

Two suspects inside the home were killed, and a third was injured. The cause of their deaths is still under investigation.

Grinnell expressed his gratitude for the assistance of multiple agencies, including the [FBI](https://www.fbi.gov/) and the [Marion County Sheriff's Office](https://marionso.com/). The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is leading the investigation.
