Despite claims otherwise, the city confirms emergency calls are operational but warns of ongoing system failures.

Austin 911 Experiencing Technical Difficulties, Life-Threatening Emergencies Affected

The city of Austin [https://www.austintexas.gov/] announced Sunday evening that its 9-1-1 system is experiencing technical difficulties, with reports of callers and call takers having difficulty hearing each other, and issues with automatic location information.

Some calls are also being answered by neighboring jurisdictions. We are working to resolve these issues as quickly as possible.

While the city confirms that emergency calls are still going through, they are advising callers facing life-threatening emergencies who have difficulty connecting to 9-1-1 to instead call 3-1-1 or (512) 974-2000.

It is unclear how long these technical difficulties will last or what is causing them.
