2024 Presidential Race Tightens as Harris Gains on Trump in Betting Odds

Betting odds for the 2024 US Presidential Election have narrowed, with Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris gaining ground on Republican nominee former President Donald Trump.

Betting Odds as of August 5:

  • Bet365: Trump -138, Harris +110 (via Covers.com)
  • Bovada: Trump -120, Harris EVEN
  • BetOnline: Trump -120, Harris +105
  • Oddschecker: Trump -111, Harris +124

The two candidates started the race with Trump at -200 and Harris at +200, but Harris' momentum has cut into Trump's lead. Bettors now give Trump a 58% chance of winning, while Harris stands at 47.6%.

The shift in odds comes ahead of Harris' VP pick and the Democratic National Convention, which historically boost a candidate's poll numbers. The vice-presidential betting market has also narrowed, with Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz reportedly Harris' top contenders, according to Reuters.

Historical context: The betting favorite has only lost twice since 1866, in 1948 and 2016.
