Boar's Head Facing Class Action Lawsuit After Deadly Listeria Outbreak

Boar's Head is facing a class action lawsuit in the wake of a deadly listeria outbreak that has sickened 34 and killed 2 across 13 states. The popular deli meat and cheese company has recalled over 7 million pounds of products, including liverwurst and other deli meats, with production dates ranging from May to July 2024.

Lawsuit Allegations:

"On July 26, 2024, Boar's Head Provisions, Co. Inc. issued a recall of certain meat products that was deliberately designed to preclude the vast majority of customers from receiving a recall, in order to save the company the expense of recalling all contaminated products and losing the future sales from the lost meat."

The lawsuit, filed by Rita Torres in the Eastern District of New York, alleges that the company deceived customers by failing to disclose the full extent of contamination and that customers would not have purchased the products if properly warned.

Listeriosis Symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Muscle aches
  • Headache
  • Stiff neck
  • Confusion
  • Loss of balance
  • Convulsions
  • Diarrhea
  • Miscarriage/stillbirth/premature birth
  • Death

What to Do:

If you have recalled products, throw them away immediately and sanitize your refrigerator. Avoid high-risk foods, especially if you are pregnant or have a weak immune system.
