South Carolina School Under Fire for 'Insensitive' Post

A South Carolina elementary school has apologized for a Facebook post depicting two employees dressed as U.S. Border Patrol agents, standing in front of a makeshift red wall. The post, shared by Royall Elementary School on July 31, sparked backlash for its insensitive portrayal of U.S. Border Patrol agents amid the ongoing migrant crisis.

"It is with regret that we acknowledge that a picture posted on our Facebook page showed an insensitive disregard for the current challenges our Hispanic population faces... At Royall, we take great pride in our long-standing tradition of embracing and supporting every student. Our staff is committed to celebrating diversity and ensuring the success and happiness of every student, recognizing their unique culture and abilities. We apologize for our insensitivity."

Florence One Schools Superintendent Richard O’Malley issued a letter to parents, stating that several employees are no longer with the district or have been placed on leave. O'Malley's letter, as reported by WMBF, conveyed his stance:

"As superintendent, I will not tolerate anything of this nature in our school district... I want to assure the Royall Community that the school will continue to provide an exceptional education for all students."
