A 25-year-old man, Caleb Comer, has been charged with murder in connection to the fentanyl overdose death of 18-year-old Matthew Wright from Cedar Park, Texas.

"Fentanyl is stealing far too many lives, and we are dedicated to pursuing drug dealers who are dealing lethal poison in our communities." — Cedar Park Police Chief Mike Harmon

After a three-month investigation, text messages implicated Comer, revealing ongoing discussions about drugs and their effects, with Wright seeking advice on dosage and Comer agreeing not to sell him certain drugs.

On May 1, Wright purchased two perc pills (oxycodone mixed with fentanyl) from Comer for $20. Wright was found dead in his bed the next morning.

Comer is now facing murder charges under House Bill 6, which targets the fentanyl crisis, with bail set at $150,000.
