JD Vance: Rumors, Memes and Eyeliner, Oh My!

American voters know a few things about Republican VP nominee JD Vance: he's from Ohio, wrote "Hillbilly Elegy," and has made some controversial remarks. But what about the rumors?

The Rumors:

• The Couch Sex Allegation: A viral post on X by a left-leaning user claimed Vance described a sexual act with a couch in his memoir. It was fake but spread, even appearing on TV shows. Source

• Dolphin Search: Vance posted a screenshot of a post about a woman and a dolphin, with those words bolded (indicating a search). Commenters questioned why he searched for this. Could be innocuous, but Vance didn't respond.

• Venmo Connections: Wired reported Vance's Venmo friends list included controversial figures like Amalia Halikias and Jeff Flake, as well as critics of Trump. Source

• Eyeliner: Social media users claim Vance wears eyeliner, citing his appearance on TV. Old photos show dark eyelashes, but Vance hasn't commented.

• Mountain Dew: Vance joked Democrats will call drinking Diet Mountain Dew racist, which sparked call-outs and responses, including from Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.
