Tropical Storm Debby will devastate the Southeast this week, dumping catastrophic levels of rain.

Potentially historic to catastrophic rainfall is expected across the Southeast as Tropical Storm Debby hits multiple states. The National Hurricane Center warns of "significant flash flooding" in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Heavy rainfall will spread through southeast Georgia and eastern South Carolina through Friday, with the center of the storm moving offshore later Tuesday.

More flooding is expected through Sunday, impacting northern North Carolina, the Mid-Atlantic states, and southern New England. Tropical Storm Debby made landfall Monday as a Category 1 hurricane in Florida, weakening as it moved through the state. Hazards remain in its wake, including flooded areas and downed power lines.

The National Hurricane Center warns residents to:

  • Ensure proper ventilation when using generators to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Exercise caution with chainsaws and power tools
  • Stay hydrated to prevent heat exhaustion

Storm surge and tropical storm warnings are in effect from Florida to North Carolina as a dangerous storm surge and tropical storm conditions spread northward.
