A fast-moving wildfire, dubbed the Edgehill Fire, ripped through Southern California's San Bernardino Mountains on Monday afternoon, destroying homes and forcing residents to evacuate.

"Little Mountain is a community that is not unaccustomed to fire. The residents here are aware of the fire threat... As engines were pulling up, people were already evacuating." - Eric Sherwin, San Bernadino County Fire Department Spokesperson

With temperatures soaring to a high of 109 F, the San Bernadino County Fire Department issued evacuation orders for the south side of Little Mountain, located about an hour east of Los Angeles.

This area, under an excessive heat warning from the National Weather Service until Tuesday night, is expected to suffer temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit until after 7 p.m. Monday, according to Accuweather.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are underway.
