Smokey Bear, the beloved symbol of wildfire prevention, turns 80. From fiction to reality, Smokey's legacy is one of survival and stewardship. Born of a collaboration, Smokey has left an indelible mark:

"Only YOU Can [prevent wildfires]."

The iconic bear cub, rescued from a New Mexico wildfire, lived out his days as a real-life symbol at the National Zoo. With 90% of wildfires caused by human activity, his message is as crucial as ever.

Wildfire Facts:

  • 7-10 million acres burn annually in the US.
  • Human causes: campfires, debris burning, equipment, cigarettes.

Honor Smokey: prevent wildfires. A legacy worth celebrating.
