Susan Wojcicki, Former YouTube CEO, Passes Away at 56

Technology and business pioneer Susan Wojcicki passes away from lung cancer; husband and four children grieve.

Susan Wojcicki, a renowned technology and business leader, has died at the age of 56. Wojcicki's husband, Dennis Troper, announced her passing via a Facebook post, revealing that she lost her battle with non-small cell lung cancer. Wojcicki is survived by her husband and four children.

"My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after 2 years of living with non-small cell lung cancer... Susan was... a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a dear friend to many. Her impact on our family and the world was immeasurable. We are heartbroken, but grateful for the time we had with her." — Dennis Troper, Wojcicki's husband.

Wojcicki had an illustrious career in the tech industry. She graduated with a BA in History and Literature from Harvard University in 1990 and obtained an MS in Economics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 1993. She earned an MBA in Economics from UCLA in 1998. In 1999, she became one of Google's first few employees and later rose to the position of senior vice president for ad products. In 2014, she became the CEO of YouTube, a position she held for nine years before stepping down in 2023.

Months before her own passing, Wojcicki and her husband suffered another tragic loss with the accidental overdose death of their 19-year-old son, Marco Troper, a student at UC Berkeley.
