YouTube CEO Neal Mohan loses his mentor

Neal Mohan, YouTube CEO, lost his mentor and former CEO, Susan Wojcicki, who died on Friday. Wojcicki, a former Google employee, joined the company in 1999 and stepped down from her role at YouTube in February 2023. Mohan, who took over the reins, grieved her loss on X (formerly Twitter):

"Her legacy lives on in everything she touched @google and @youtube... I am forever grateful for her friendship and guidance. I will miss her tremendously. My heart goes out to her family and loved ones."

Mohan, in an interview at Stanford University in October 2023, attributed his career to embracing change. He holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Stanford and an MBA from the same institution. Mohan joined Google in 2007 during the DoubleClick acquisition, working his way up to senior vice president, before taking over as YouTube CEO in 2023.

"I've been at YouTube for a very long time... But a big part of the job is different now; I am the face of the company... It's my job to really be the steward of that.”

Susan Wojcicki, a technology veteran and leader, passed away from lung cancer, her husband, Dennis Troper, announced. Wojcicki was 56 and left behind her husband, four children, and a remarkable legacy. Tragedy struck the family earlier this year with the accidental overdose and death of their son, Marco Troper.
