Potential Tropical Cyclone Five is the second disturbance since Debby, which made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane in Florida and then again as a tropical storm in South Carolina, bringing historic rainfall to the region.

"[An] early and violent start..." — Government officials on the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season

If Potential Tropical Cyclone Five strengthens into a tropical storm, it will be named Ernesto. As of now, it is "moving rapidly westward," with a tropical storm watch issued for Puerto Rico and nearby islands. The Leeward Islands can expect the disturbance on Tuesday, with Puerto Rico potentially seeing landfall by early Wednesday.

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season has been described as having "an extremely active remainder," with predictions of 17-24 named storms and 8-13 hurricanes. This season is already proving deadly and costly, with Hurricane Beryl and Hurricane Debby making landfall in Florida and impacting the East Coast.
