Utility Worker Electrocuted by Live Wire in Mississippi

A 20-year-old utility worker, Jayton Stahlhut, died by electrocution on Aug. 6 in Prentiss, Mississippi. This tragedy occurred a day after Tropical Storm Debby made landfall in Florida, causing multiple fatalities and power outages across states.

Jefferson County Coroner Dedra M. Johnson ruled the death an accident.

Stahlhut's coworker called 911 after he was shocked, but he died later in hospital that day. The town of Prentiss is located 60 miles southeast of Jackson. Johnson confirmed the cause of death as electrocution, with toxicology tests pending.

USA TODAY contacted EXO, the company Stahlhut contracted for, for comment.
