Another Death Valley Hiker Dies of Heat Exposure, NPS Says

A second person has now died from heat exposure symptoms this summer after hiking at California's Death Valley National Park. Peter Hayes Robino, 57, died on Aug. 1 after a one-mile hike, according to the NPS.

"Witnesses offered to help [him], but he refused with responses that 'did not make sense.'"

Robino, who was from LA County, stumbled and refused aid after hiking the Natural Bridge Trail. He then drove off a 20-foot embankment, his car rolled, and he died shortly after, despite aid. An autopsy confirmed heat exposure.

This death comes after a motorcyclist also died from heat exposure at Death Valley in July. Park officials have repeatedly warned of the dangers of extreme heat, with temps in the park reaching highs of 130°F.
