Southern Minnesota residents witnessed the dazzling #Perseid #meteor shower Monday—with many capturing the event on video.

The #Perseids, according to NASA, occur between mid-July and early September, with a peak of up to 100 #meteors per hour around mid-August. The American Meteor Society confirmed its visibility on Sunday and Monday nights.

The Best Meteor Shower of the Year

The #Perseidshower is considered the year's best due to its abundance and fireballs, which NASA describes as creating larger explosions with longer-lasting, colorful lights, unlike average #meteorstreaks.

Best viewed in the Northern Hemisphere pre-dawn, they are sometimes visible as early as 10 p.m.

Impressive photos of the event were captured across the U.S. and globally.
