Phoenix endured its 49th consecutive day of triple-digit heat Monday, breaking a record set in 2011. More scorching heat expected in the coming days may push that number to 55.

Phoenix Shatters Record for Consecutive Triple-Digit Days; Heatwave Drags On

Phoenix has endured 77 straight days of sweltering temperatures above 100°F as of Monday, breaking the previous record of 76 consecutive days in 1993, as reported by the National Weather Service.

According to AccuWeather forecasts, there's no respite in sight, with predictions of triple-digit highs persisting throughout the rest of August, far surpassing the extreme conditions witnessed in 1993.

Maricopa County, home to Phoenix, has recorded 96 heat-related deaths as of the week ending August 10, with 57 directly attributed to the heat, and over 460 potential heat-related fatalities still under investigation.
