Tropical Storm Ernesto Heads Toward the Caribbean, Heavy Rain Expected
The Caribbean Islands, including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, are bracing for impact as Tropical Storm Ernesto developed and headed their way on Monday.

- National Hurricane Center updates as of 8 a.m. ET:
- Maximum sustained winds of 45 mph
- Movement at 18 mph
- Expected to cross the Leeward Islands Tuesday morning
- May approach/pass over the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico by Tuesday evening
- Potential for strengthening over the next few days, possibly reaching hurricane strength by Thursday north of the Greater Antilles.
Impact:
- Heavy rain, flash flooding, and mudslides possible in impacted areas.
- Texas is not anticipated to be affected as the storm turns north.
