Texans eagerly awaiting an extra hour of sleep as daylight saving time ends on November 3, 2024

Texas is currently experiencing extremely hot summers, with temperatures so high that everyone is looking forward to the cooler days of winter. And with that, the imminent end of Daylight Saving Time (DST).

In 2024, DST will end at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 3, when clocks will go back to 1 a.m. local time. This marks the transition to standard time, with an extra hour of sleep for most Americans, except those in Arizona, Hawaii, and a few other locations.

As the days move toward winter, sunrise will occur later and sunset will come earlier, with the shortest day of the year falling on Saturday, December 21, 2024—the winter solstice.

Here's an interesting fact: the concept of DST dates back to World War I, when countries like Germany and Austria wanted to maximize resources. Ben Franklin is also credited with the idea, due to a satirical letter he wrote in 1784, suggesting church bells and cannons be used to wake people up with the sunrise.
