Bee Cave Bans Door-to-Door Solicitation After Dark, Voters to Decide on Charter Amendments

The Bee Cave City Council has unanimously voted to ban door-to-door solicitations after dark, requiring solicitors to provide proof of a permit. The new guidelines, which take effect September 1st, are a response to an increase in after-dark solicitors, with permits now being handled by the Planning and Development Department to ensure proper background checks.

"We have a big problem with this in my neighborhood. It’s a lot. It’s excessive. It can even sometimes be several in one night.” - Mayor Kara King

The ordinance excludes political and religious canvassing and gives enforcement power to residents with "no soliciting" signs posted. Misdemeanor charges can be brought against violators.

Bee Cave Residents to Vote on Seven Charter Amendments

On November 5, Bee Cave residents will vote on seven proposed amendments to the city charter, including:

  • Proposition A: Allowing the City Council to adjust city boundaries and assuming jurisdiction.
  • Proposition B: Requiring both council and voter approval for future pay increases for council members and the mayor.
  • Proposition C: Authorizing certain positions to act in place of assigned officials and giving the mayor power to sign bonds and other obligations.
  • Proposition D: Clarifying obligations and adjusting provisions for failures to adopt a budget.
  • Proposition E: Designating an official city paper and requiring all communications to be published while limiting the city's liability for damages.
  • Proposition F: Adjusting standards for citizen petitions and allowing minor changes to the charter and its amendments.
  • Proposition G: Requiring voter approval for any changes to city-owned real estate and mandating public deliberations.

City officials are prohibited from using resources to promote the amendments and can only provide basic information. Any personal promotion is permitted. The City Council appointed a commission to study and propose these adjustments.
