Wally Amos, Jr., Cookie Entrepreneur, Dies at 88

Wallace "Wally" Amos, Jr., founder of Famous Amos cookies, has died at 88. According to reports by the Tallahassee Democrat, part of the USA TODAY Network, Amos passed away on Wednesday in Hawaii.

"Our dad inspired a generation of entrepreneurs...Famous Amos was a great American success story, and a source of Black pride." – Amos' children

As NPR reports, Amos dedicated his life to creating the perfect cookie, and his company was founded in 1975, per its website. Amos' children called him a "true original Black American hero."

Born in Tallahassee's Smoky Hollow neighborhood, a historically Black community, Amos later moved to New York City at age 12. In a 2006 interview, he recalled the racism he experienced during segregation, but never forgot his roots, visiting his birthplace multiple times over the years.

Amos' legacy will be remembered as a sweet success, and a source of inspiration for entrepreneurs and the Black community.
