West Orange, Texas — A Texas mother has [her rescuers to thank](Bodycam video captures officers, good Samaritans rescuing woman, child from sinking car) for her life after a seizure caused her to drive into a pond with her two children in the car. The dramatic rescue, captured on police bodycam, shows the moment a 12-year-old boy ran to an officer for help.

"She's having a seizure! She's sunk! She's in the water, help her!" —Dwight, 12-year-old son

Assistant Police Chief Jessie Romero said Jonquetta Winbush was driving with her son, Dwight, and her 16-year-old daughter, Bri-Asia, when she had a seizure. Bri-Asia tried to help, but her mother's foot slipped from the brake to the gas pedal, sending the car into a pond.

Officer Cobb to the Rescue

West Orange Officer Charles Cobb responded, finding Dwight running down the highway. Seeing the sinking car, Cobb sprang into action, diving into the water to attempt to unlock the doors. With the help of two citizens, Epi Munguia and Corey Bull, they broke a window and pulled Winbush out.

"It's just by the grace of God that all of us were there, they were willing to help, and we all working together were able to get her out."
—Officer Charles Cobb

Cobb performed CPR, and Winbush gasped for air—a relief for all, especially her worried children. Cobb visited Winbush in the hospital, where she said, "[Y]ou know, we're family now." On Monday, the city of West Orange recognized Cobb, Munguia, and Bull for their heroic actions.
