Five Dead, Including Teen's Entire Family, in Central Texas Wreck

Officials identify all victims; speed & tire blowout suspected factors

Five people were killed in a fiery wreck in Lampasas County, Central Texas, on Wednesday morning, according to the Department of Public Safety (DPS). All victims have now been identified, and the tragedy leaves a 14-year-old Leander boy, Adiryan Arvind, without his immediate family. A GoFundMe page set up for the boy has raised over $700,000.

The dead include:

  • Arvind Mani (45)
  • Pradeepa Arvind (40), Mani's wife
  • Andril Arvind (17), their daughter
  • Jacinto Gudino Duran (31)
  • Yosilu Gasman Martinez (23)

Duran, driving a 2004 Cadillac CTS with Martinez, suffered a right rear tire blowout, causing him to lose control and skid into oncoming traffic, where he collided with a 2024 Kia Telluride carrying the Arvind family. Adiryan was not in the vehicle.

Speed and Tire Condition Investigated

DPS Trooper Bryan Washko said the collision was so severe, "there was no chance of survival." He estimated Duran's speed at 100 mph, based on witness testimony, and said the impact was "like hitting a concrete wall at 170 mph." Investigators found the Cadillac had old tires that needed replacing.

Alcohol's role is still unknown.

Community Mourns

Andril Arvind had just graduated high school and was en route to the University of Dallas to study computer science with her parents. Her brother remained behind as he started school that day.

The principal of Rouse High School, in a letter to parents, expressed sorrow at the loss: "Our thoughts and prayers are with Andril's family and friends."

The GoFundMe page describes the tragic loss and notes Adiryan is now residing with his uncle's family.
