Texas State University is expanding internationally with a new $10 million venture in Mexico. The Texas State University System regents have greenlit a revenue contract with Texas State University Mexico, a group of investors, to establish the university's first international campus in Santiago de Querétaro, Mexico.

"It's a beautiful campus on the outskirts of a beautiful city... Querétaro is home to more than 150 multinational companies, making it an ideal location." - Texas State President Kelly Damphousse

The satellite campus will be operated by a private group, Elisia Education Hub, offering Texas State curricula and degrees. Texas State will administer programs and set tuition rates, expected to generate an estimated $18 per semester credit hour, or $10 million in a decade. The campus will open in Fall 2025, conferring accredited degrees recognized in both countries.

Texas State President Kelly Damphousse shared his excitement about the project, describing the campus as "an American-style university" with intramurals, residence halls, and English-taught classes. The campus has existed for seven years and will primarily recruit Mexican students while offering exchange opportunities with the Texas campus.

Arkansas State University currently teaches classes at the site, but Texas State will introduce new degree programs, likely in computer science, engineering, and psychology. Damphousse envisions several hundred students enrolled, with a focus on expanding international programs and exchanges.

"This is all part of an effort...to internationalize the curriculum... Mexico is our first entry into international locations, but it won't be the last." - Texas State President Kelly Damphousse

With a recent focus on engaging more international students, Texas State has tripled its numbers in two years, and this initiative supports that goal, offering a rich international experience to students on both campuses.
