Texas TE Gunnar Helm Recruits Colorado State Rams

Texas tight end Gunnar Helm was born and raised in Colorado. It was his home-state Colorado State Rams who offered him his first scholarship in 2021—but he stayed loyal to his home and snubbed them.

Longhorn Returns to Face Rams in Season Opener

When Texas faces Colorado State in its season opener on August 31, Senior tight end Gunnar Helm will have a unique connection to the Rams. Growing up in Colorado, Helm received his first scholarship offer from Colorado State in January 2020, quoting him as saying:

"It will be cool (to play them). I know a couple guys on that team. The home ties, I guess, will be definitely cool."

Later, Helm's talent attracted offers from Alabama, Auburn, and UCLA, among others. But he chose Texas, appearing in 39 games over the next three years and making an impact with 14 receptions and two touchdowns in the 2023 season.
