Trump Touts 20 Campaign Promises, as Harris Rollout Begins

Former President Donald Trump shared 20 campaign promises Tuesday on Truth Social and his website. While VP Kamala Harris began revealing her agenda Friday, Trump has promoted various platforms this cycle.

Platforms:

• Agenda47: Trump released statements/videos in 2022 during primaries, with plans for crime, education, healthcare, immigration, etc. Some extreme ideas, like death sentences for drug dealers, were included.
• Project 2025: Published by Heritage Foundation in April '23. Trump distanced himself from some extreme proposals, but creators had ties to him. The 900-page doc includes border security, curbing trans rights, and energy dominance.
• RNC 'Make America Great Again': Endorsed pre-convention, mirroring Trump's campaign points. Focused on "America First": border security, manufacturing, energy production, military. Notably absent: abortion.
• Trump's 20 Core Promises: Part of RNP platform, including sealing the border, ending inflation, energy production, tax cuts, defending Constitution/freedom of speech/religion/right to bear arms, preventing WW3, etc.

Harris' Platform:

Harris started with an economic plan: banning price gouging on food/groceries, aiding first-time home buyers, and incentivizing builders. The rest of the Democratic platform is forthcoming, typically adopted at the convention. DNC is Aug 19-22 in Chicago.

"I think the scaled-back nature of the Republican platform reflects...Donald Trump himself seems to think that these documents are essentially toothless, and that voters may not be so interested...so the message has been distilled and simplified," said Costas Panagopoulos, a political science professor.
