7,000 East Austin Residents Facing Power Outages Amidst Soaring Temperatures

About 7,000 customers in East Austin will be without power until at least 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to Matt Mitchell, a spokesperson for Austin Energy, as reported to the American-Statesman.

The outages began shortly before 5 p.m., as temperatures in the neighborhood soared to 107 degrees Fahrenheit, the highest recorded this year.

The areas primarily affected span from East of Interstate 35 to as far west as Airport Boulevard, stretching as far south as South Lake Shore Boulevard and as far north as East 11th Street.

Mitchell stated that the cause of the outages is currently unknown.
