Texas' most famous grocer, H-E-B, has finally entered the modern era with a tentative step into tap-to-pay technology. **

Both Austin locations of H-E-B-owned Central Market now offer a tap-to-pay option at self-checkout, allowing customers to use their phones or credit cards to tap and pay, a convenient alternative to traditional methods.

At H-E-B, we are actively exploring a broad range of technologies to enhance how customers shop and pay for products, and we hope to offer these services in the future. — H-E-B Spokesperson to the American-Statesman, January 2023

While the change had been rumored and hinted at by H-E-B spokespeople, it is currently only available at Central Market, with "no other plans to share" regarding a broader rollout, according to an H-E-B representative.

However, the same rep added: "We hope to offer these tap-to-pay services at more stores in the future."
