Family of Late French Actor Alain Delon Will Not Euthanize His Dog per His Wishes

The family of French actor Alain Delon, who died on Sunday at 88, has gone against his wishes by refusing to euthanize his dog, Loubo, a Belgian Malinois.

The actor, an icon of ‘60s and ‘70s European cinema, had stated in 2018 to Paris Match that he wanted his dog to be "put to sleep” and buried with him, believing it to be a better alternative than the dog suffering after his death.

“If I die before him, I’ll ask the vet to take us away together. [Loubo will] be put to sleep in my arms. I’d rather do that than know that he’ll let himself die on my grave with so much suffering.”

Animal Rights Groups Criticize Delon's Wish

After Delon’s passing on August 18, his wish faced criticism from animal rights groups, such as La SPA, who condemned the idea, stating, “The life of an animal should not be conditional on a human’s”.

Delon’s Family and Animal Charity Step In

Contrary to the late actor's wishes, the Brigitte Bardot Foundation announced that Delon's family has agreed to take Loubo in, assuring the public that “Loubo has his home and his family”. The Foundation also asserted that "Loubo will not be euthanized".

Delon, known for his roles in films like "Le Samourai" and "La Piscine", was also a well-known animal lover, with the Brigitte Bardot Foundation paying tribute to their shared love and respect for animals.
