Texas Football Player Vernon Broughton Missed Spring Game Due to Wedding

When the Texas football team played their annual Orange-White Game this spring, senior defensive lineman Vernon Broughton was noticeably absent. Head coach Steve Sarkisian excused Broughton's absence, but the reason was only recently revealed.

"I got married in Dallas, Texas to my beautiful wife, Camille Broughton, (who) I love dearly," Broughton told reporters this week.

Broughton explained that his wedding date was set before the University of Texas' (UT) spring schedule was announced. Unfortunately for Broughton, the Orange-White Game was scheduled for the same day as his wedding, forcing him to make a difficult choice.

"She was going to kick my butt if I went to that spring game," Broughton joked.

As a fifth-year senior, Broughton is expected to be a key player on the defensive line this season. His teammates have confidence in his abilities, with offensive lineman Hayden Conner praising his work ethic and predicting his success on the field.

"Vernon's been a guy who's always worked every single day. He's getting his shot now and it's showing," Conner said. "He's going to be a really good piece for us on defense this year."
