Texas Delegate Kate Cox Uses DNC Stage to Announce Pregnancy, Support VP Kamala Harris

Kate Cox, joined by other prominent Texans, announced Texas' support for VP Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee and shared her personal story of accessing abortion care.

Chicago, Illinois - [Tuesday, July 17, 2024]**: Texas delegate Kate Cox, alongside actor Eva Longoria, state party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa, and Cecilia Richards, made headlines at the Democratic National Convention. Cox, who gained attention last year for her legal battle to terminate an unviable pregnancy, announced her support for Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee. She also revealed that she is expecting again, saying:

"I’m Kate Cox. I love being a mom. I have two beautiful children. My husband and I have always wanted a third... When I got pregnant, doctors told me my baby would never survive. If I hadn't gotten an abortion, it would have put our future pregnancy at risk. Trump didn't care. Because of his abortion bans, I had to flee my home. There is nothing pro-family about abortion bans. There is nothing pro-life about letting women suffer and even die."

Cox's announcement comes two years after Roe v. Wade was overturned and amidst heightened focus on reproductive rights within the Democratic Party. Cox's story illustrates the impact of Texas' restrictive abortion laws and the consequences for families. She concluded her statement, saying:

"Today, because I found a way to access abortion care, I am pregnant again, and my baby is due just in time to see Kamala Harris sworn in as president of the United States."
