Texas Soccer Defeats SMU 6-3; Byars Makes History

The No. 12 Texas soccer team remained undefeated (3-0-0) with a 6-3 victory at SMU on Thursday night, led by senior forward Trinity Byars' four goals. The match marked several historic firsts for the 31-year-old program.

  • Byars became Texas' first-ever 50-goal scorer, achieving the feat with her second goal of the night. She had already established herself as UT's all-time leading scorer this season.
  • Byars scored four goals in a single game, a "haul" in soccer terms, for the first time in her collegiate career. This was only the sixth time in Texas history that a player scored four times in one game.
  • Byars' little sister, Truth, scored for the opposing team. Truth, a sophomore forward at SMU, notched one of the Mustangs' three goals. The sisters hail from nearby Richardson.
  • Texas secured its first-ever win at SMU, breaking a previously winless streak (0-2-2) when playing in Dallas.
  • Freshman forward Amalia Villarreal scored her first collegiate goal.

The Longhorns return home to face the No. 24 Iowa Hawkeyes (1-0-1) at Myers Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
