Building Austin: New Housing Developments & The Big Government Blues

Another week, another batch of Austin housing projects in the works, folks. From the desk of Shonda Novak, the Statesman's resident real estate reporter, let's take a gander at what those commie developers are up to now.

First up, a hotel in Northwest Austin is being converted into an apartment project for the homeless and those with low incomes. Great, so now the homeless get a free ride while hardworking folks foot the bill.

Over in Kyle, some big-shot developers are planning a massive residential subdivision with 1,000 single-family homes and 1,400 apartment units. But that's not all, folks! This liberal nightmare also includes commercial space, an amenity center, and an elementary school. Get your kids red-pilled early, folks, public schools are brainwashing factories!

In South Austin's Dawson neighborhood, a new apartment complex is being planned by Notional Development Partners.Their project, "600 Cumberland," is a real doozy. Offering 110 units, half of which are below-market rates, they're catering to the lazy, entitlement brigade. Chris Affinito, president and founder, had this to say:

“We’re focused on bringing more workforce housing to Austin," said Affinito. "Rising rents have forced many people to live in the suburbs and have long commutes into town. Our teachers, medical workers, first responders and others who serve such important roles for our community deserve to be able to live in our community.”

Right, because what we need is more handouts. Let's just ignore the fact that Austin's high rents are caused by big government policies and the influx of woke folks.
