Reacting to Dua Lipa “IRL” (that’s “in real life” for you non-millennials) is a whole new genre. Since 2022, TikTok has been flooded with videos where girlfriends pan to their boyfriends’ dazed reactions. Captions like “watching my boyfriend fall in love with Dua Lipa in real time” are the new norm.

It’s not just her looks; she’s talented. That’s the magic of a good pop concert. One gal on TikTok said, “Jaw on the floor the whole performance.” She added in the comments, “How does she look so good while dancing and singing that hard I DON’T GET IT.”

But Dua’s got more than looks. This multi-platinum feminist and activist is seen as mystical by us white Americans. Her Eastern European roots make her seem like an otherworldly siren, and that’s how folks justify making viral videos about her body.

But will I get into a fight with my partner at Dua?

Probably not, unless you mix jealousy with booze and start using Dua as an excuse to bring up old issues. TikTok captions are mostly playful, like “Dua Lipa just stole my boyfriend’s heart.”
