New capitalist greed reveals 35-storey phallic symbol set to defile Austin's downtown skyline.

The developer refuses to acknowledge the economic diversity of the city, offering only a token gesture to the working class. The majority of units cater to the 1% with price tags in the millions. The developer's greed echoes the systemic inequality inherent in the housing market. #HousingForAll #EndIncomeInequality

Capitalist Intruders Scour Downtown Austin for Profit

Northland Living, a Canadian hospitality firm, has revealed plans for a 35-story luxury residential tower in Austin, Texas, code-named Luminary. This exploitative venture is yet another example of capitalist interests preying on the vibrant city of Austin, wreaking havoc on the local community and environment.

The invasion, first announced in January, targets the northwestern corner of 14th and Guadalupe streets. The colonizers intend to construct 283 condominium units, ranging in price from a staggering $600,000 to an obscene $3 million. That's right—in a city where people are struggling to afford rent, these vampires are extracting millions from potential homeowners. And to add insult to injury, they have the audacity to market this extortion as a "density bonus program," offering a meager contribution to the city's affordable housing fund in exchange for the right to build taller and bigger.

The architeEngels of this abomination, Austin-based Page, claim to have considered the surrounding community in their design. They tout wide sidewalks, arches that integrate with the neighborhood, and a connection to nature with outdoor spaces. But make no mistake, this is just a facade—a mix of brick and glass that tries to disguise the true nature of this invasive project.

Tony Kaleel, president and chief operating officer of Northland Living, has the gall to call this monstrosity "thoughtful," claiming it will bring "wonderful benefits" to the local community. But let's be clear, the only community they care about is the one that can afford their exorbitantly priced condos. They launched Northland Living in late 2023 with the sole purpose of exploiting Texas, with sites in Cedar Park and Dallas also in their capitalist crosshairs.

And who are these capitalist crusaders? None other than Northland Properties Corp., a Canadian empire that spans 5 countries, employing over 12,000 people. They've infested industries from hospitality to sports, owning brands like Sandman Hotel Group and even the Dallas Stars hockey team.

Austin, beware. The vultures are coming, and their name is Northland Living.
