‘Bridgerton’ Season 4: A queer romance for Francesca Bridgerton?

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Season 3 of ‘Bridgerton’

It's official: ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 is happening, and it might feature a queer romance for Francesca Bridgerton. Here's everything we know so far, from cast to release date.

‘Bridgerton’ Season 4: What we know so far

  • Queer representation: In an interview with Glamour, showrunner Jess Brownell confirmed that Season 4 will feature a queer romance between Francesca Bridgerton and her cousin-in-law, Micheala Stirling. She explained that Francesca's book, "When He Was Wicked," resonated with her as a queer woman, and that she felt there was "fertile ground" to tell a queer story with a happy ending.
  • Lead couple: While Netflix has not yet announced the lead couple for Season 4, all signs point to Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and her newfound love interest, Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza).
  • Release date: In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Brownell stated that fans can expect a wait of up to two years for Season 4. However, filming is set to begin in the fall, and the season might have a warmer vibe compared to the pastels and spring-like feel of previous seasons.
  • Storyline: At the end of Season 3, Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie) departs for Scotland to live with her sister Francesca and her husband, the Earl of Kilmartin (Victor Alli). Francesca is introduced to Michaela, who will be accompanying them to Scotland. In the books, Francesca ends up married to the Earl, but he dies, and she eventually finds love with his cousin, Michael. It seems the show might be condensing this storyline, with Francesca falling for Michaela instead.
  • Cast: While no official announcements have been made, it's likely that much of the recurring cast will return for Season 4, including Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton, Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton, Simone Ashley as Kate Sharma, and more.
