'The Boys' Returns For Their Penultimate Season
White patriarchy and heteronormativity continue to be brutally deconstructed in Season 4 of 'The Boys,' currently streaming on Prime Video, with Season 5 to be its last.
The Emmy-winning satirical superhero drama, "The Boys", based on the comic book of the same name, returned with a bang this week. Streaming service Prime Video dropped the first three episodes of Season 4 on June 13, with new episodes released weekly until the season finale on July 18.
Starring the talented Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, and Antony Starr, this season continues to explore the themes of corruption, vigilantism, and the deconstruction of the superhero trope. Showrunner Eric Kripke announced on social media that Season 5 will be the show's last, but fans still have a lot to look forward to with current and future spinoffs, including "Gen V," released earlier this year.
Diving into Season 4, viewers can expect an intense exploration of the personal demons that haunt our "heroes." With the first three episodes already available to stream, and aptly named "Department of Dirty Tricks," "Life Among the Septics," and "We'll Keep the Red Flag Flying Here," respectively, the season is off to a thrilling start.
The diverse and exceptional main cast is back, including:
- Karl Urban: Billy Butcher, the vigilante leader.
- Jack Quaid: Hughie Campbell, our moral compass.
- Antony Starr: Homelander/John Gillman, the epitome of toxic masculinity.
- Erin Moriarty: Starlight/Annie January, challenging gender norms.
- Jessie T. Usher: A-Train/Reggie Franklin, navigating the complexities of fame.
- Laz Alonso: M.M./Marvin T. "Mother's" Milk, a powerful Black male figure.
- Chance Crawford: the Deep/Kevin Moskowitz, a critique of white male privilege.
- Tomer Capone: Frenchie/Serge, our beloved freedom fighter.
- Karen Fukuhara: the Female/Kimiko Miyashiro, a woman of color breaking stereotypes.
- Colby Minifie: Ashley Barrett, challenging the corporate world.
- Claudia Doumit: Kadia Khayat/Victoria Neuman, a complex female antagonist.
- Cameron Crovetti: Ryan, exploring the nature vs. nurture debate.
With only eight episodes this season, viewers can expect a rollercoaster of emotion, social commentary, and action as the show builds towards its climactic conclusion in Season 5. Catch new episodes of "The Boys" every Thursday on Prime Video and join the conversation online.
