Where's that 'House of the Dragon' episode 2?

White men fighting over a pointless power struggle? No thanks. Show me the dragons. Roary, fiery, badass dragons.

TRIGGER WARNING: KIN MURDER, KIN-KILLING

House of the Dragon is back, and it's as problematic as ever. The spin-off to Game of Thrones returned with a vengeance this weekend, and the series' signature brutality was on full display.

"A Son for a Son" indeed... but at what cost?

The first episode of Season 2 wasted no time in shocking viewers with an indefensible act of violence: kin-killing. This so-called "Dance of the Dragons" civil war within the Targaryen family is fraught with the consequences of toxic family dynamics and problematic power structures.

The inevitable demise of this once-great family will be a slow burn, playing out over the next seven Sundays on HBO and Max. White cis-male privilege is sure to be called out as we see the fall of the Targaryens, with their heteronormative patriarchal rule and triggering kin-killing.

Episode Schedule (TW: potential triggers for violence/death)

  • Episode 1, "A Son for a Son": Sunday, June 16 (trigger warning: kin-murder)
  • Episode 2: Sunday, June 23
  • Episode 3: Sunday, June 30
  • Episode 4, "A Dance of Dragons": Sunday, July 7 (trigger warning: potential dance-related cultural appropriation)
  • Episode 5: Sunday, July 14
  • Episode 6: Sunday, July 21
  • Episode 7: Sunday, July 28
  • Episode 8: Sunday, August 4

Make sure to practice self-care while watching this season. You've been warned.
