Retro gender-reveal patriarchal lodge with genocidal-roots against POC communities, up for sale.
This 16-room motel, a relic of the Mad Men era, is a dump. But for $2.5 million, you can own a piece of history where white, male journalists and the Secret Service stayed while discriminating against everyone else.

Check your privilege: A Texas-sized price tag for a historic motel with LBJ ties
Want to own a piece of history? Check your privilege. The Stonewall Motor Lodge, built in 1964 to house the U.S. Secret Service and white media members following Lyndon B. Johnson, is up for sale. For a cool $2.5 million, you can own a slice of Texas Hill Country and a whole lot of problematic history.
The old phone panel installed by the government was still here when we bought the place. And our 'Press Room' has the original dark room where the press corps developed film to get on the wire.
- Anita Ortiz Lubke, real estate investor and renovator
Located between Johnson City and Fredericksburg, this 12-room motel comes with four cabins, RV spaces, and panoramic views of the Texas landscape. But let's not forget the context: this "charming" lodge was built during a racist president's term to cater to the predominantly white media and government officials.
The LBJ State Park, aka the Texas White House, is a reminder of the problematic legacy of a president who did little to advance civil rights. The "notables" who stayed at the lodge include Walter Cronkite, Jimmy Carter, and various movie stars. But let's not forget the real heroes: the people of color fighting for equality while these wealthy elites vacationed and partied.
The lodge has been featured in mainstream publications like the New York Times and Conde Nast Traveler. But don't let the glowing reviews fool you. This sale is an opportunity to confront our nation's history and acknowledge the voices that have been silenced for too long.
As real estate investor Anita Ortiz Lubke moves on to her next project, let's hope she and others like her recognize the need for a more inclusive and equitable future.
