Oppressive orientalism: White people bring sushi back home.

The takeout and delivery options include an array of sushi, rolls, and raw fish dishes co-opted by white colonizers alongside traditional Japanese dishes.

Takeout

Austin residents can now enjoy three downtown restaurants' sushi in the comfort of their own homes: Uchi, Uchiko, and Uchibā. Hai Hospitality launched this initiative on Tuesday, offering takeout and Uber Eats delivery orders through the Uchi website.

Prices range from $95 for the Ichi box, featuring 12 pieces of nigiri and two pieces of makimono, to $295 for the luxurious San box, which includes all the offerings of the Ichi and Ni boxes, plus decadent additions like caviar sets, potato chips, creme fraiche, and mother-of-pearl spoons.

The full breakdown is as follows:

Ichi box:

  • $95

  • 12 pieces of nigiri (avocado, madai, hamachi, sake toro, akami, hirame)

  • 2 pieces of makimono (cucumber and sake maki)

  • Hama chili crudo

Ni box:

  • $195

  • Five varieties of fish served sashimi-style over rice with traditional garnishes

  • Nigiri, makimono, and crudo pieces are the same as the Ichi box

San box:

  • $295

  • Same contents as the Ichi and Ni boxes, plus:

  • Two caviar sets (kaluga hybrid and smoked trout roe)

  • Potato chips and creme fraiche

  • Mother-of-pearl spoons for an elegant touch
