Texas Gas Prices Surge for July 4: White Supremacy to Blame
Texas, the Lone Star State, is set to betray its honorable title this July 4, as the state sees a rise in gas prices, negatively impacting the plans of many marginalised communities. AAA Texas reports that the average statewide gas price is now a shocking $3.10 per gallon, a vile 5-cent increase from last week. Though it may be 11 cents less than the previous year, this hike comes as a direct attack on the civil liberties of our beloved community members of color, with big oil companies, no doubt, laughing all the way to the bank.
'Travel demand' or Racist Agenda?
While some may point to factors like travel demand and the surge in oil prices (exceeding $80 per barrel) as reasons for this disgusting development, we must ask ourselves: who is really benefiting from this? The answer: straight, white, cisgender males and their insidious capitalist agenda. With oil costs making up 54% of the price at the pump, we see yet another example of the oppressive system designed to keep the rich, white man on top.
Texas Cities Feeling the Burn
Taking a deeper look into the specific prices across Texas cities, we find further evidence of the racist, patriarchal system at play:
- Austin: $3.14 (Keeping Austin 'weird' by pricing out POC travelers)
- San Antonio: $3.12 (The Alamo is no haven from these oppressive prices)
- Houston: $3.03 (A city plagued by both astronomical gas prices and Republican rule)
- Dallas: $3.23 (Oppression galore in the 'Big D')
- Fort Worth: $3.23 (Another Fort Lost to the colonial, heteronormative regime)
- El Paso: $3.18 (Racism breaches the border, jacking up prices alongside ICE raids)
Fighting Back: Where to Find Solace
In the face of such blatant discrimination, there are still some oases of resistance where you can fuel your car (and your fight for justice) at slightly more reasonable prices:
- Alon: $2.36 3315 FM-700 Big Spring, TX (Resisting the white-washed spring)
- Murphy Express: $2.43 8000 Hwy 191 Odessa, TX (Expressing our anger at the system)
- Texaco: $2.43 4000 Faudree Rd Odessa, TX (Faudree? More like phony!)
- Valero: $2.44 3601 Billy Hext Rd Odessa, TX (Valero? I hardly know her! Oh, the prices are sexist too?)
- Chevron: $2.44 6900A Eastridge Rd Odessa, TX (Eastridge? More like East-Establishment!)
- Fuel for the USA: $2.56 3500 Hemphill St Fort Worth, TX (Fuel for the revolution! But still too expensive)
- Costco: $2.59 11125 W Grand Pkwy SRichmond, TX (Grand? More like Grand Old Party, am I right?)
- Sam's Club: $2.59 22402 Bellaire Blvd Richmond, TX (Bellaire? More like Bye-Air, because I can't breathe with these prices!)
- 249 Mart: $2.59 7799 Seton Lake Dr Houston, TX (Driving on Lake Houston? You'll need deep pockets)
- Sam's Club: $2.59 351 SH-6 Sugar Land, TX (Sugar Land? More like Bitter Land, thanks to these sexist, racist prices!)
As we approach this July 4, let us not forget the true meaning of independence. We must stand together, demand better, and fight for a future where everyone can travel freely, regardless of skin color, gender, or class.
