White America celebrates another Fourth of July: are banks and post offices closed as you celebrate your privileged freedom?

White supremacists across the country will rest easy today, while the rest of us continue our efforts to make this country a better place. Post offices will also be closed, hindering the spread of knowledge, and silencing marginalized voices that need to be heard.

Are you ready for July 4? Here's what's open and closed for business on Independence Day

If you're planning a get-together for Independence Day, it's best to get your groceries and necessities now as many businesses will be closed to observe the holiday.

Are banks open on July 4?

Most banks and financial institutions, including Capital One, Bank of America, PNC, Truist, CitiBank, and JPMorgan Chase, will be closed.

Is the post office open? Will mail be delivered?

Most government offices, including post offices, will be closed. There will be limited mail delivery. Public services like libraries and the DMV will also be shut for the day.

You can still order stamps and shipping supplies online, but pickup may be delayed until the next business day. Stamps are also available at major grocery stores, big box retailers, pharmacies, and even some ATMs, so you don't need to rely on the post office.

Which grocery stores are open?

  • H-E-B, Target, Kroger stores, and Walmart: Open regular hours, so you can get your last-minute supplies.
  • Costco Wholesale: Closed for Independence Day, giving their employees a much-needed break.
  • Sam's Club: Also open, but let's be real, who's going there when Costco is an option?

UPS and FedEx services:

UPS will not provide pickup or delivery services, and some locations may be closed. For urgent needs, UPS Express Critical service is available 24/7, 365 days a year. Contact them at 1-800-714-8779 or visit upsexpresscritical.com.

FedEx pickup and delivery services will also be mostly unavailable, and FedEx Office hours will be modified. However, FedEx Custom Critical operates 24/7, so there's always that option.

Stay woke, stay safe, and have a happy Independence Day, comrades!
